The New York City Marathon is back this Sunday, November 3rd, and that means road closures and traffic delays. If you’re a rideshare driver, it’s important to be aware of the closures so that you can plan accordingly.
The marathon starts on Staten Island at 8 AM, and ends in Central Park, Manhattan.
Marathon Tips for Delivery Workers
- Check the road closure map in advance. The New York Road Runners (NYRR) publishes a detailed map of all road closures on their website (view below). This will help you to plan your routes and avoid any unexpected delays.
- Be prepared for traffic congestion. On race day, traffic will be heavier than usual in all five boroughs. Be patient and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
- Communicate with your pick-ups. Let your delivery orders know about the road closures and traffic delays.

- The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge will be closed for the following times:
- Saturday, November 2nd: The upper level will be closed in both directions starting at 11 PM.
- Sunday, November 3rd: The entire bridge will be closed to all traffic from 7 AM to 4 PM.
- Pulaski Bridge connecting Brooklyn and Queens
- Queensboro Bridge connecting Queens and Manhattan
- Madison Avenue Bridge connecting Manhattan and the Bronx
- Willis Avenue Bridge connecting the Bronx and Manhattan
